Historically, pulling on a white shirt and going into battle on home turf almost always ended in a Real Madrid victory, but this season, their luck appears to have changed with their home ground instead playing host to tight games and struggles, rather than the swashbuckling performances we are used to.
This season in La Liga, 'Los Blancos' have recorded almost the same record away from home as at the Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane's side have claimed the same amount of points on their travels as at home (34), having played one game less in enemy territory.
10 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses is Real Madrid's record at home in the league, with their away record looking almost the same, aside from suffering one fewer defeat away from home.
- Disappointing results -
Whilst we always tend to think of club enjoying their best moments at home, Real have recorded several results at the Bernabeu this season that could have been much better, including: the 1-1 draw with Levante, the 1-0 defeat to Real Betis, the 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Barcelona, the 1-0 defeat to Villarreal and the recent 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao.
Their woes aren't only limited to league action either, with the Spanish champions having not won any of their three Copa del Rey games at the Bernabeu this season either, having drawn 2-2 with Fuenlabrada and Numancia, before being beaten 2-1 by Leganes.
- Normal service in the Champions League -
As it so often is with Real Madrid, it's a different story in the Champions League, with the European champions beating APOEL 3-0, drawing 1-1 with Tottenham, beating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 and seeing off PSG 3-1 at the Bernabeu. Whilst even their most recent result, a 1-3 defeat to Juventus, was enough to see them through to the semi-finals.
With a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Bayern Munich on the horizon, it is imperative that Zidane and co improve their home form, with just 12 games to go before the biggest game of their season.
