There are no plans to cancel England's trip to Russia for the World Cup in the summer. The FA will be directly advised by the British government if the travel advice changes but the trip is to go-ahead. The update comes after a former Russian spy Sergei Skipal and his daughter, were poisoned on British soil in a suspected Russian attack, somewhat straining the relationship between Russia and the UK.
The FA reiterated that political considerations are the responsibility of the government and they are therefore not involved in Russian international relations. There have been calls for England to boycott the World Cup for fear that they would be put in danger by travelling there. The FA has addressed speculation to say that they have confidence in the security arrangements.
Fifa will be providing bottled water to athletes through their own sponsors, whilst all members of the England squad from management to players have been instructed not to use public or hotel wifi over concerns about hacking. The FA want to limit the possibility of sensitive information leakage, including injuries, squad lists and tactics.
If England were to boycott the World Cup, they would be in breach of FIFA regulations that outline any association that withdraws from the tournament could face sanctions.
