Paul Lambert is confident that Stoke will avoid the relegation battle if they continue in the same form they have performed so far. Lambert succeeded Mark Hughes back in January, and has taken charge of six games.
The 'Potters' are currently sitting in 19th position in the Premier League, although they are only 3 points behind Swansea who occupy 13th position. Lambert has managed only one victory since arriving at the club, but also notably only one loss. The coach said in a press conference that "the spirit among the players at the moment is very good and I think it shows, the way we try to play."
Stoke face a huge challenge against Manchester City on Monday. Guardiola's side have won 25 out of their 29 matches in the league thus far, having been defeated in only one.
Lambert however, is not phased, saying he is realistic in approaching the likely league champions. "We have to be really strong. We have to defend from the front, be strong in midfield and defence, and the goalkeeper is going to have to have a great game but we also have to find a way we can hurt them. I have ideas in my head. Obviously we won't have much of the ball, but when we do, we have to be ruthless with it and try to hurt them, and take them out of their comfort zone," he explained.
He went on to say that "On any given day you can win a game of football. In a one-off game you can win, and that is the beauty of football. We'll do everything we can to try to win. If we try to play football the same way they do then we will be beat - that is the reality. We have to have an idea of another way to try to beat them."
