Christian Eriksen has long been touted as a future Barcelona player, with reports that the Tottenham man was a target at the same time that Barca were pursuing Philippe Coutinho. However, these rumours died down once the season got underway, and the Dane has been in flying form this year, recently making it into the PFA Team of the Year.
He has registered 14 goals and 10 assists for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season, much to the delight of Tottenham fans. However, with good form comes interest from big sides, and a recent revelation from football agent Bayram Tutumlu will come as painful reading for supporters of the North London side. Tutumlu, who is the agent to Danish legend and now-manager of Al Rayyan Michael Laudrup, has stated that Eriksen came to him for advice earlier in the year.
"Christian Eriksen invited me to his house in London in September and asked me what he needs to do to get to a bigger club," the agent said, speaking to Danish newspaper 'BT'.
"I told him that a really big club wanted him."
Tutumlu then stated that Barcelona chief Josep Bartomeu has interest in Eriksen, claiming he compared him to the agent's client, Michael Laudrup.
"When I visited Barcelona with my adviser Evren Sahin and Brondby’s owner Jan Bech Andersen," he said. "The Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu told us that Eriksen was going to become the next big player in Denmark after Michael Laudrup."
It has long been speculated that Tottenham will struggle to hold onto their players due to their relative lack of financial clout, and this news will worry fans of the side, especially if Tottenham fail to pick up any silverware again this season.
