The Premier League strugglers thought they had hit the jackpot when Sanchez joined them on loan from Bayern Munich for the entirety of the season, after impressing for Portugal at the 2016 European Championships.
However, it hasn't panned out that way for Swansea or the 20-year-old who has struggled with confidence and form, featuring only 12 times in the league and so far failing to net a goal.
Speaking to the English newspaper, Clement, who was sacked by the Welsh club in December after spending the first few months rock bottom of the Premier League, gave his opinion on the young midfielders' situation.
"Bayern really supported it. They thought he was going to a club who played football, and to a coach who would care and give him the attention he [Sanchez] needs".
"He wasn't soo keen initially. He thought he was going to go to Manchester United, Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain. Bayern were saying 'You're not going there, it would be the same situation, you're not going to play".
The 46-year-old also spoke about Sanches' issues: "When he came, he was far more damaged that I thought. It was really sad. He was a boy who had almost got the weight of the world on his shoulders".
"In training, when the pressure is not there, he was the best player. But then in games, I looked at the choices he was making, shooting from 45 yards on the angle, and he kept making those mistakes".
He finished: "He got in a vicious cycle of poor choices. The other players were saying, 'he's playing like that and you're not picking me' so it became difficult to pick him".
Sanches will be hoping his luck can change as new boss Carlos Carvahal has inspired some fight in the Swansea squad, winning three in their last five including impressive home victories against Liverpool and Arsenal.
In addition, Carvalhal is Portuguese and might be able to relate more to the youngster through speaking his native language.
