PSG beat Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup in the 1992-93 season, and repeated the feat in the same round of the Cup Winners' Cup the following season, while 'Los Blancos' beat the 'Parisiens' at the Bernabeu in the group stages of the Champions League two years ago, before they played out a 0-0 draw in the return fixture at the Parc des Princes.
In the first official tie between the two sides, on March 2nd 1993, Real Madrid - who were missing Robert Prosinecki though flu - put their trust in Jose Miguel Gonzalez 'Michel' and Emilio Butragueño in an encounter where everything happened in a frantic finale.
The Spaniards presented PSG with a lot of problems, and had a 2-0 lead by half time thanks to goals from Butragueño and Chilean Ivan Zamorano.
David Ginola reduced arrears at the beginning of the second half, and after the match came close to being tied, Michel made it 3-1 late on.
The second leg was one of the most embarrassing nights in Real Madrid's history, and one of the most historic for PSG. The French side ran out 4-1 winners, with Ginola, George Weah and Valdo producing pieces of magic to take them through.
Weah scored in the first half to reduce the deficit, before everything broke loose in the final ten minutes. Ginola (81) and Valdo (87) made it 3-0 on the night, before Zamorano scored in added time to level the tie for Real Madrid. However, with the last play of the game, Antoine Kombouare headed home to send PSG into the next round.
The following year, the two sides met again, this time in the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup, and it was PSG who came out victorious again. On this occasion they shocked the Bernabeu, winning 0-1 in Madrid thanks to a goal from Weah, the assist coming from the mercurial Ginola.
Things were slightly better for Real in the second leg. They levelled the score after 19 minutes after Butragueño deflected a shot from Fernando Hierro past the goalkeeper. However, they were not to get their revenge. On 50 minutes brazilian Ricardo Gomes scored for PSG and ensured that Vicente del Bosque's side would not get the result they needed.
They would not meet again until 2015-16 in the group stage of the Champions League. Real Madrid were after their 11th European Cup while PSG had turned themselves into a contender for the biggest prizes after heavy investment.
The two sides played out 0-0 draw at the Parc des Princes and a narrow victory in Madrid for the home team, with Nacho scoring the decisive goal and securing passage through to the knockout stages for Real Madrid. The Spanish side were unlucky on the night that it wasn't more convincing with luck deserting them as they saw three attempts hit the woodowork.
The teams have also played each other in various non-competitive environments, including recent pre-season games in 2013 where Real won 1-0 thanks to Karim Benzema, and in 2014 where Jese scored to give the same result. He has since gone on to play for PSG. PSG won 3-1 in the most recent meeting, an International Champions Cup game played in Columbus, Ohio. Nanitamo Ikone scored once and Thomas Meunier netted twice while Marcelo put Real Madrid on the scoreboard.
