Valverde denies lack of cutting edge

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde refused to comment on the idea that his team lacked a cutting edge in the first Clasico of the new campaign. 

Neymar, who joined PSG for £198m, scored on his debut for the French side as his former club were humbled by arch rivals Real Madrid.

Deulofeu was the man tasked with the challenge to fill the hole left by the departed Brazilian in the Barcelona attacking trident, but the Catalans struggled to make an impression in the game at the Camp Nou.

When asked about his side's poor performance, Valverde instead chose to congratulate Real and focus on how to improve. 

He said, 'It's not about accumulating people who score a lot of goals, but creating a consistency in our play so that the players who score the goals are always close to doing so.

'I don't think we're short of goals. [Madrid] were more clinical. We congratulate them and we will try to improve.' 

With Barcelona still in the market to try and replace Neymar, Valverde confirmed he is still working to bring in new faces before the transfer window closes. 

He added. 'We're Barca and we want to have the best team,' he said. 'Until the end of August, there's time [to sign new players], although I'm focused on the [players] I already have here.'
