City have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to avoid a repeat of last season's trophyless campaign. The club have signed six players so far including Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Kyle Walkern and Danilo and Otamendi believes that the increased competition for places is a good thing.
"It's always positive when there's this much competition," he explained.
"It doesn't allow for any of the players to relax, you always have to give 100 per cent."
"It makes it complicated to choose the starting XI but that's why we need to have a strong pre-season."
The Argentine was very clear on his and City's goal for the coming season.
"This season, obviously we've got good quality players and that's always a great thing to have. The ultimate goal is to get titles. Unfortunately we weren't able to do that last season so that's a big goal for us," he asserted.
Otamendi's place is unlikely to be under threat, with Pep Guardiola yet to sign a new centre-back but given the way the Spaniard is spending money there is plenty of time for that to change.
