The 21-year-old enjoyed a fine debut season at Old Trafford under Louis Van Gaal, but fell out of favour under Mourinho at times last term, with the Portuguese often publicly dressing down his young forward.
The former Monaco man has bounced back impressively though, scoring six goals and laying on six assists in 16 games so far this season in all competitions.
Martial took centre stage once again in midweek, laying on an assist for Alexandre Lacazette in France's 2-2 draw with Germany after bamboozling two German defenders.
Speaking to 'Premier League TV', Martial explained that he now enjoys a good working relationship with Jose Mourinho and that the United boss is the perfect man to get the best out of him.
'He's hard with all of us and he is hard with me, there is no question,' Martial explained. 'But I know that it's for my benefit. But I also know that he really likes me as a person, so there's no issue about the discipline being for the wrong reasons.
'But the objective, of course, is to have all of us in good condition, and being fit to play every match and that is what I'm hoping to do.
'At the beginning we didn't know each other too well, but over time we have got to know each other better. He knows my strengths and my weaknesses, such as they are, but the outcome is that we are learning to give everything in the right way.'
Despite his upturn in form, Martial remains behind Marcus Rashford in the United pecking order, something which he may have to remedy if he hopes to ensure a place in a France squad that boasts serious competition for places ahead of next summer's World Cup.
