The 49-year-old referee will be tasked with keeping tempers in control as The Gunners welcome their arch rivals to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
It will be the seventh time Dean has officiated for one of England's fiercest local derbies, the sixth in the Premier League and the first time since 2014.
The experienced official brandished more red cards than any other referee last season, with five, and he has handed out two red cards and 10 yellows in games between the two sides.
Arsenal fans won't take too kindly to the news of his appointment, as many of them haven't forgiven him for his failure to send off Diego Costa during their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2015.
He also showed red cards to Santi Cazorla and Gabriel Paulista during the game, and an online petition requesting that Dean be banned from refereeing future Arsenal games amassed over 100,000 signatures.
It's fair to say reaction on social media from Gunners supporters has been less than positive...
How have we got Mike Dean for another North London Derby? Eurgh hate the bald idiot.

Tears in Mike Dean's eyes.
Mike Dean is the referee in charge of the NLD. How much more proof do you need that the FA hates us?
